THE COMPETITION
The 2024 South West Writing Competition, in conjunction with the Warrnambool Storytelling Festival, is now accepting entries from local writers on the theme of:
'crossroads'
Registration opens: June 1, 2024
Closing date for entries: August 15, 2024
CATEGORIES:
Writing will be accepted in one of three categories:
o Adult (18 & over) Category:
Fiction or non-fiction, Length: 1500-3000 words
Entrants must be 18 years or more at the closing date of the competition.
o Adult (18 & over) Micro-fiction Category:
Not more than 500 words.
Entrants must be 18 years or more at the closing date of the competition.
o Youth (ages 12 - 17) Category:
Fiction or non-fiction, Length: 500-1500 words
Entrants must be between 12 and 17 years at the closing date.
PRIZES:
o 1st Prize - Adult: $1000
o 1st Prize - Micro-fiction: $500
o 1st Prize - Youth: $500
All prize winning entries and a selected shortlist of works will also be published in a South West Short Story anthology book.
ENTRY GUIDELINES
Entry is restricted to new and emerging writers living in the shires of Warrnambool, Moyne and Corangamite only.
Your entry should be:
One entry per person
Original, not previously published,
and written and carefully editedTyped in in English in 12-point sized font, 1.5 spaced using Times New Roman, Arial or Calibri (or a similar plain font) with wide margins
Submitted as a PDF or Word document
Received via email by August 15, 2024
